In the previous post we examined some info on meta tags. The focus of the post was on optimizing your title tag of your site. This info is widely accepted and used by any SEO Company that is worth anything.

The description meta tag is useful as it is what will appear underneath the title of your title website when viewed on a search engine results page or SERP. Many SEO advocates do not agree with me on my methodology and thoughts on the description Meta tag.

While the Meta tag is a great place to make a quick pitch for your website, your website must first appear in the SERP’s. I do not use the description Meta Tag on the majority of my sites. Here is why.

The search engine will bold the keywords or search words you used when you performed your search. If you do not use the description tag google will use keywords and text from your webpage to fill in the description.

If you have good content on your page this will help you with both rankings and a description that meets the searchers request. Let’s go back to Mary. Her title is Artist Paint | Paint for Artist Free Shipping (See Natural SEO Title Meta Tags) Mary has provided quality content on her site.

She has sections dedicated to acrylic artist paint, oil artist paint, and watercolors for artist.

The description Meta tag should not exceed 160 characters. There is no way to provide a good description of all the artist paints on Mary’s website with 160 characters. Search Engines have become quite smart…. So why not let the search engine pick out the most relevant information from the page.

Advantage number 2 is that the keywords acrylic, oil and water are not in Mary’s title. If she lets the search engine fill in the description for her, has good content on her pages she is expanding the range of terms her site can be found when a prospective customer is searching for various artist paint.

Advantage 3: I have left the description tag on my site blank and then watched my site go from #3 to #1 on google. I also saw an increase in the range of keywords the website got page 1 rankings in.

The description Meta tag is not going to make or break your site in rankings: however I am a firm believer in using every advantage I can to get top rankings. The next post will cover the keyword Meta description. This is also a tag that my philosophy is different than many other SEO posts you will read. Till next time happy natural optimizing of your title and description Meta tags.

Natural SEO and on page optimization starts with meta tags. Meta tags are on the page behind the page you see when your website is viewed on your browser. These tags are very important in SEO.

There are a ton of tags you can use but we will only focus on the most important ones. They are:

•	Title

•	Description

•	Keywords

In earlier lessons we saw the per of your domain name (If you missed theses please read Natural SEO Domains and Natural SEO Domain Names Part 2 ) This is so important there are two parts.

The next most important aspect in on page optimization is your title tag. The title of your webpage should be very similar to your domain name if you are following the directions. Here is the best way I can explain this.

Think of the internet a huge library. To get to the library you will need to get in your vehicle to get there. This is google or the search engine of your choice. Your domain name gives you the address of the library.

Now you are at the library and need to find your book. The library functions based on the information of all the books being kept in a card catalog. You can find a book by topic in this catalog. This is exactly how a search engine works. The title of your webpage should be helpful in explaining the contents of your book.

The title of your webpage is seen in the search results and also in the top of the browser when the page is loaded. I have seen countless websites with the title of the webpage named home, default, or the name of the business.

This is terrible! Well if your business name is Coke a Cola, Ford or IBM you may want to use your business name in the title. If that is the case I doubt you would be reading this post.

Lets review the domains Mary chose for her business in Natural SEO Domain Names Part 2 Mary chose artistpaintus.com and artistpaintusa.com.

Mary is selling paint to artist and she will do shipping to customers. Her title should be something like:
<title>Artist Paint | Paint for Artist Free Shipping </title> (If Mary ships some orders for free)

The first word in the title is the most important, then 2cnd etc… You notice the keywords. Artist and Paint are used multiple times. The title also looks inviting.

I have given you some food for thought. Your title to your web page should be short and sweet. This is the most important meta tag so take your time and get it right.

I will address description and keyword meta tags in the next Natural SEO 101 post.

Natural SEO 101 is designed to you use natural SEO practices to gain high organic SEO rankings in search engines. The Free lessons of natural SEO are designed to take you from day one of starting your site.

The tips and techniques are based on natural SEO fundamentals that have been proven over time. While it is true that some SEO tactics are “Hot” at one time and may fade later the basics of natural SEO have survived the test of time. That is the main focus of this site.

Natural SEO 101 lessons will help you destroy SEO myths by delivering easy to understand lessons. The information you will learn here has been implemented on websites and blogs and is proven to deliver results.

The lessons in natural SEO 101 will often require you to do homework. Yes natural SEO is like everything else you experience in life. What you put into the homework…. Time effort and thought will have a direct correlation to the results you get. When reading these lessons you may note I often us e the phrase “I Strongly Suggest” The translation of this is very simple. If you do not take the suggestion do not expect to get the results you want.

You will see several links in the right side column of Natural SEO 101. All of the services and products listed are products that I have used with great results. I can be classified as a spendthrift person. These products and services deliver the most bang for the buck of any comparable products I have tried, and I have tried a lot.

On another note Natural SEO does not have to be a costly adventure. In the long haul it is much more cost effective than Pay Per Click Advertising. The tools I recommend are low cost tools that will help you achieve the highest ranks for your website in the shortest amount of time.

The last note about these tools is that if you use them I have tons of experience with them so if you have questions or need help using them I can provide you with support. If you use different tools I will not be able to provide the quality of support I would like to in helping you achieve high Natural SEO rankings.

I hope you not only read these lessons, but implement them and the techniques in them. It would be a true pleasure for me to be part of your online success. Best wishes in your natural SEO endeavors.

To Your Success,

Ken Fry

OK – Now that you have used Natural SEO to make a Great selection for your domain name you will need to host this domain somewhere. You can get a lot of Bang for your Buck with Hosting or a pretty bogus deal.

The first thing I look for in hosting is a low cost dependable hosting provider.

The second thing I want is a host that I can have multiple domains on

Third the Host should use CPanel

Let me explain these points so you can see the benefits. First a host is where you website or blog is going to live. It is stored on a big computer called a server. I’m sure you have had a computer that crashed or ran poorly. This brings us to point one.

Dependability of your hosting service is crucial. If the host or server crashes your website will not be visible to anyone. This is not the big issue it used to be but it is still very important. My experience is the bigger companies are usually better for dependability.

The second point is can I host multiple domains on the host. This is something that can be very helpful down the road if you choose to use some of the natural SEO strategies I will be giving you. The other point is that you can get this feature from some hosting companies at super affordable prices – about a dollar or two a month more than an account limited to one domain.

I have signed up with hosting companies that advertise multiple domain hosting only to find out that they had additional cost for each domain – and yes you get to find this out after you sign up for your account. The best hosting companies I have used to date are Host Monster for websites and Host Gator for Blogs.

The third point is does the host have CPanel? CPanel is the user interface that allows you to do a lot of things in a very simple easy manner, some of these include:

Add e-mail accounts

Add Domains

Set Up Blogs

See visitor statistics

The next issue you need to decide is your domain going to be a blog or a website. Websites and blogs both have advantages. Tomorrow we will examine the best course of action for natural SEO using a blog or website.

As we have learned the domain name is the foundation of natural SEO. In yesterday lesson Joe was able to find a domain name that fit his location, his product, and even specify the customer type very fast and easy.

Not all businesses are going to have the luxury in finding a good natural SEO dot com domain name as Joe did. For this reason we will look at a few tips and tricks to help you.

After some quick checking I found:

Artistpaint.com – Taken

Artistpaintsupplies – Taken

Artistpaintandsupplies – Available

Mary has done her homework and has decided she really just wants to sell Artist Paint as her knowledge and inventory of supplies is not always good. Now she can try the following. Artist-paint.com this is still an excellent Natural SEO domain name but it is taken also.

Thankfully Mary has been reading Natural SEO and knows that a domain name can still be very strong if she adds on a short word at the end. Mary knows she wants a bigger market than her small town; However she also knows that shipping paint to China is not feasible. Mary intends to sell her products in the US.

Mary now checks artistpaintus.com and artistpaintusa.com. They are both available. Mary likes USA better but is torn because it is the longer word. Mary decides she will buy both domains. Unknowingly Mary has made a great decision.

Now Mary has two domains that fit her product and market that are great for natural SEO. But whatever happened to artistturbofastacrylicpaint.com and artistturbofastpaint.com. Mary found out no one really had much interest in this paint.

The tool Mary used to find this out is here (Click Me). This gives you estimate of how many people search for a term on a daily basis. There are many other tools that you can use to get this info. I find this one to be most accurate. I also like the fact they are not trying to get you to buy something based on their results. There will be a complete lesson on these tools in the future.

I strongly suggest that when you buy your domain buy 2. The second one needs to be very similar to the first. This will not be discussed for a bit. We have more lessons before we get there. Stay tuned to find out what we will do with these natural SEO domains.

If you have completed your Natural SEO Homework from yesterday it is now it is time to check our domain names. The domain name is the basis for all natural SEO. This blog is designed for natural SEO. That means making decisions that will allow your site to rank well naturally.

The domain name is the foundation of natural SEO. If you have a website or blog that does not fit with the homework assignment I would strongly urge to spend the money (under $10) to buy a new domain. This is going to make your life a lot easier in the long run and get you much higher search rankings faster. (Natural SEO will save you a ton of money and time)

Now if we take a step back you will notice that the first word in the domains we played with yesterday should be you’re directed to your primary customer. Joe needs local sales so he used his city. Mary sells to artist so that is her primary target.

Now let’s check for available domain names. You want to stay with dot com if at all possible dot net is the second best. I check for domains here. I do not buy domains here as they are overpriced especially on renewal. They do have the best search engine for finding domains I have found. So I will check:

Planocontractorspaint.com

Planocontractorpaintsupplies.com

Planohousepaint.com

Wow – Joe is in luck they are all available. The domain that should bring the most traffic and customers is planohousepaint.com. The least traffic would be planocontractorpaintpaintsupplies.com Now Joe has to decide weather he wants more visitors or highly targeted visitors to his website. Also getting a very high ranking for a super specialized key phrase is going to be easier but both are very attainable. I would take planohousepaint.com but I am not Joe.

Buying the domain name is the next step. Buy only the domain name for now. DO NOT BUY THE HOSTING. I buy my domains here. This is not just based on price although the prices are very good. I buy from 1and1 because the dashboard, customer service, price and the user friendliness of their website is great.

Now if your domain choice is a little tougher like Mary’s will be, or not available in a dot com stick around because tomorrow I will give you the tools to help you make the best decision based on Natural SEO.
